NAMAKKAL: A bill collector with the Rasipuram municipality was suspended on Wednesday for demanding a bribe from an advocate for changing a name in a water connection.
Advocate Anbazhagan, 50, submitted a petition at a 'Ungaludan Stalin' camp for changing the name in a water connection. This petition was processed by bill collector S Raghupathi, 35. Raghupathi sought a bribe from Anbazhagan over the phone. "The audio recording of this conversation was shared on social media," said an official.
Using the audio as evidence, Rasipuram municipal commissioner R Sekar suspended Raghupathi and initiated a departmental inquiry.
